My Intern Learning Report In TSMC

Specific Suggestion for TSMC

1. A little part of my friends who also join this intern program usually found nothing to do. It was not because their buddies were unwilling to teach them, but the engineers in TSMC are really too busy. Some of them even not been told that they would in charge of interns so they didn’t have enough time to budget a plan. The previous communications between HR and the direct responsible engineers are necessary.
2. The trinity seminar is a good chance that we can take an overall view of TSMC. It’s a special time that all the interns get together. Holding one or two times “Dine together” after the speech may make it much more perfect. Interns can exchange their thoughts about the seminar content or share their learning experience with other interns of different Fabs or departments. At the same time, it would be a good chance to make friends with outstanding people from other school.

Intern Reflection

This summer, I applied for the opportunity to be an intern in TSMC. It’s my first time to see how a real company works. I’m assigned to learn in EBO, which is in charge of mask making. Just after knowing the basic knowledge about mask manufacture, I received a project to do for the entire period, accompanied with a “Buddy” who guided me to finish. The process is not always smooth going. For example, I met a problem when doing EDS analysis. My first thought was keep trying for two or three times but my leader suggested me to survey the background knowledge first. Instead of “Try and Error”, I studied the related materials and found that it’s the cause of the accelerated voltage inefficiency. This gave me lessons that:
     1. What I’ve learned in school is not irrelative to real situation; it may provide some references to the key points of problems.
     2. Logical thinking is important, and it’s always better than “Try and Error”. There is another things impressed me as well. In the beginning, I was confused about by topic but I didn’t question further. At the first “Review”, my leader told me that my report focused on the wrong direction. After that, I tried to discuss with my leader and buddy, got lots of help and finally realized the project purpose. That gave me another lesson that discussion is also a good method to solve the problem. In fact, engineers here usually talk about the work difficulties and get through it by discussion many times.
Time flies, and my intern period is going to the end. I’ve learned a lot about the way to process a project well, and the way to face the setbacks, which would be unforgettable. With these invaluable experiences, I will have a right attitude toward my research in graduate school.
